Adding a comp created as a duplicate in the timeline panel to the project panel
If you’ve created a composition in the timeline panel by duplicating and changing, then perhaps changing its name… can you then somehow create a copy of of it in the project panel?

If you duplicate a comp in Timeline, then its not actually a new comp. Its the same comp with the a different Layer Name. The Source Name still remains the same.
See the image below:
If you click on Source Name it will toggle to Layer Name.
So you are just duplicating the same comp with a different name.
If you want a new Comp with a New SOURCE NAME, then duplicate the layer directly in Project Panel and not in Time-line.

The duplicate in the Timeline can be precomposed into another comp using standard procedures. Ensure that you select the “Move all attributes … ” option in the precompose dialog.
