    Field order?
    What?

    Yes, field order.

Right click on media on the timeline.
    Prpoerties; media tab.
There you can see field order.
DV files are usually lower field first.

Other sources (analog capture devices) may give you
upper field first video, that depends on the capture
    hardware.

    No problem with either, BUT

When you render, the source media
field order must be consistent with the
    target.
So, when you render from lower field first DV AVI
into mpeg2 for dvd, the field order should be set
to “bottom field first” (render as… / custom /
    video tab / field order)

If the field order settings are not consistent
    moving gets jerky, eye-hurting.
This was the first lesson I learned when I started
with video digitizing and editing. 😉

You can also convert upper field first to
lower field first (or vice versa) using pan-crop.
    Assuming PAL video
    With :720
    Height: 576
    XCenter: 360
    YCenter: 281 <--(!!!!) Don't maintain aspect, and don't stretch. (!!!) By(t)e Laca

    [Laszlo Kovacs] “YCenter: 281 <--(!!!!)"

    Ooops.
I copied these values from a set which also removes those
distorted lines from the bottom of VHS records.

If you need convert only, YCenter should be 287.
