Lets say i have edit a 15 min. short movie and i want to add a colder look to it with a present i got in after effects. Do i have to import the whole movie into after effects and add the effect and then render it out to a final production? Or is there any easier and better way?

Well, to my point of view; yes. Why? Would that be a problem?

I can’t think of another way. Maybe if you edited in Adobe Premiere there’s a way. Other than that, I don’t think so.

If you have Premiere 2.0 and A.E. 6.5 -7.0 then you could import the Premiere sequence into A.E. thensave the A.E. file then import the A.E. file back into Premiere and continue to work from there.

I could be wrong, but I think you actually need the Adobe Studio Suite to be able to import the After Effects project into Premiere.

No you just need Premiere Pro 2.0 which is in the suite. Then standalone will work fine though.

To play it safe: Yes, render out and re-import in AE. The others’ suggestion may work, but be aware that not all AE effects work inside Premiere. Also Premiere renders in YUV as opposed to RGB in AE, which will create a slightly different look depending on the footage.

What are you editing it in? A “Cold” look is just a very basic color correction. I would just do that in your NLE with it’s own color tools. It’s not like you should go through the whole transfer process just to do a simple thing in AE that can be done almost anywhere.

Cool Roach, I guess my version of Premiere is jinxed. If I try to bring in an After Effects project into Premiere, its says “error, importing project requires Adobe Production Studio”. Glad its working for you though.
