    Hi Creative Cow Team,

i am working on a video project, which will puplished as a DVD. In the video, I want to use some grafics and text. Can I place the text in the action safe region, without loosing space at the boarders of a tv screen or should i always place the text in the title safe zone. I like it more in the action safe region, because of the proportions of the text to the main screen. If I place it in the action safe region, could it be that I loose some of the text? Can you help me? Sorry for the bad English, I am not speaking english that often. Thank you for any tips and tricks!

Always place the text within the Title Safe area. It is a more critical space.

Action safe can still have some pixels cut off, not a concern when a couple of actors are bouncing around the frame (for example, during a fight scene) but losing a letter or two from text can make a BIG difference.

Imagine how the message would change if the “o” in “hello” is dropped.

I always tend to think of action safe as “if i need the audience to see it, it doesn’t go outside action safe, if it doesn’t matter, then it can”.

Say I wanted to blow a hole in a big alien mothership, i’ve got my explosion video, and I want to put it on the alien mothership where the engine room is, if the engine room isn’t inside the action safe area, I can’t be sure people with older non-flat-screen, non-plasma, rounded corners TVs will see it.

You’ll be surprised how much of the picture is lost on those old rounded corners TVs.

    Hope that helps
