Picture a room with Particle Illusion fog.
Let’s assume that fog covers half body of a stand up person.
How to add a person in the middle of that fog?
I mean half of his body will be covered by fog but if i just cut half of his body it’ll look terrible, his body has to gradually disappear.
I tried duplicating fog channel and put him between them, used cookie cutter to cut front fog till it covers only his half body then used feather to make some border lines disappear, result is good but not perfect.
Any ideas how to get that effect?
    Thanks.

[Joao Souza] “….result is good but not perfect”

You want perfect? Reshoot. Reshoot with a smoke/fog machine. Seriously, pI is a great product, but the restraints on a 3D option you are becoming aware of. Maybe a more advanced product coming from Boris or AE or whatever might be able to provide that all important analogue look you are after – I do understand. But there comes a point were you need to stop banging your head against a brick wall OR put up with something less-than-perfect.

Maybe somebody else has a clue here. Have you tried the COW pI Forum? You can get hold of the originator of pI, Alan Lorence, over there.

If the Fog has transparency then it should be a simple matter of placing the fog on a track above and it will cover him.

If you want to make him dissolve into the fog, create a new track above the subject, add a Color Gradient with the Linear White to Black preset. Add the Sony Mask Generator to the color gradient event. Finally change this new track’s Composite Mode to Multiply (Mask) and make the track below a Compositing Child.

You can now control the dissolve of the person with the color gradient. The area that is while will show through and the area that is black will disappear. Add more points to the gradient to gain greater control over the transition between white and black.

Yeah John that “dissolve into the fog” thing will work perfectly.
It’s a room with fog like a rock stage and person will be at the center so there’ll be fog behind him so I have to make half of his body dissolve into the fog.
Like I said I already created 2 fog tracks and placed person between them, I used cookie cutter in the front fog to cut all fog besides that part that covers his half body then a little feaher to make it look subtle.
It worked very well but your way seems more simpleand less time rendering.
    Thanks.
