We have had trouble lately with resolution being not high quality when we export H264s HD sequences from our Symhpnoy NItris. We’re running WIN XP. And AAF-exported files seem to cause problems on our reeceiver’s end when playing down or re-importing.
The online searches I’ve done do not help me fully understand file exporting as I should be able to.

Can anyone point me to a link,or better yet, in layman’s terms, explain some differences/advantages/etc comparing AAF-exported files to “same as source” QT files? My network is quickly heading to file-only and I’d like to have more of a basic knowledge, especially since I”ll be a first-time NABer this year and want to hold my own there.

As far as advanced Avid file-exports are concerned (H 264,MPEG 4s, etc), I sadly admit I”m a relative newbie,…other than saving export settings I know will work for me.

Thanks for any help;much appreciated from you experts here. I’ve always gotten valuable advice from everyone.

I think you will get an answer if you rephrase your question. It’s unclear as to what you are actually trying to do. You reference AAF though I think you think it something other than what it is commonly understood to be, maybe.

Dino: as I mentioned in my post,I’m a file “newbie.” I’m not that well-informed about file structures myself.
Which is why i post here;everyone on this site is an expert in their field.I’m a very good editor;and I am trying to learn what I can from the experts about file exports…the trial and error hasn’t helped much.
One of my questions in my post was:
<> I think that is pretty direct, and I hope I can get some help here. Michael’s been helpful, already, actually.
If I phrased the other questions in my post incorrectly,it’s because of my lack of knowledge in the area.
I can tell you that yes,I posted an H264 file export from an HD Avid sequence and the chroma was washed out and the black levels seemed crushed….when compared to the actual Sequence.
Additionally,an AAf export I made from an Avid sequence did not import properly in my receiver’s-end FCP system.
    Does that make more sense?
I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
    thanks
    Rob
