A way to see if clips in bins have been used in a sequence?

I’m running Media composer 2.6.2, but I believe this to be a universal technique in the avid World.

2 different ways:

If your sequence is in the same bin as the clip,Highlight your sequence, go to the menu in the lower left corner of the bin, and select: SHOW MEDIA RELATIVES

The opposite technique is to go to your clip bin without highlighting anything, go to the same menu and: SELECT UNREFERENCED CLIPS. It will then highlight every clip not being used in any sequence living in any currently open bin.

Thanks. I thought there was a better way. Maybe I was thinking of Premiere. I think they have a dedicated “used” column in their version of the bins.

The sequence does not have to be in the same bin, any open bin will show media relatives from the sequence. The issue with a column just showing used is if two or more sequence use different media.

If you want a quick view there are two other ways:

1) Open MediaTool for and select drives and project. Select sequence and do a media relatives. All clips will highlight. No need have bins open.

2) Don’t have a system in front of me, but look in the user guide for “set bin display”. Put sequence in its own bin and use that.

You’re thinking of Premiere. Selecting a clip in the project window will show a thumbnail and a “used X times” with a little down triangle where you can select an instance. AE is similar as well.
