  • A way to capture DV quicktimes on PC?

    Hi all,

I will be having use of one of the stupider macbooks without a firewire port. Though I do have a PC with a firewire card. Is there any software (free or costly) that can let me capture from DV/HDV tapes to a format that I can then use with my castrated macbook in FCP?

I realise there will be some external drive compatibility issues.

    Many thanks,

    Chris.

First solution is to buy what you need, sell the one you have on ebay and buy the right one on ebay or referb from Apple. The computer has what is has and it is our job to get what we need.

If you don’t what to do that the best advice about using the PC is to buy MacDrive for it. This will allow you to mount the Mac formatted drive and capture to it. But then you will still have to use USB on the Mac which is not the best for editing. Take a look at Vegas or Premiere and see if they capture as Quicktime. DV and HDV are pretty much cross platform codecs if you capture as DV AVI all you need to do is rewrap it as quicktime. But once again this is really time consuming and will cost you as much as changing out the MBP.

    my 2 cents.
