A system for CS3 with the EX1 and operating system
I have been happy with my PD150 and DV system (dual Opterons and windows XP)and editing with the Master Suite Collection with the help of Nucleo Pro for AE.
Now I want to move to HD and have just rec’d my sony EX1 and via Sony clip browser copy the card to my Vista laptop express slot (burn a dual layer DVD for back up one 8GB card per DVD). Use the Sony clip browser to export the mxf files to my video machine via my 1GB Lan.
At present for a simple trouble free workflow I use Sony Vegas 8 to do simple editing for learning the camera but hate the interface.
I realize that a full powered machine with dual quadcore and lots of storage is the real way to go for HD but I really do not want to go the Mac Pro and FCP route (even if ALL my video friends use it).
Here is my plan for a new HD editing and After Effects station (I will not use this machine for any other work)
MBO Intel D5400XS
Processors 2 x Intel Quadcore X5472 3Ghz
Memory 2 x 4GB 800hz
Video Card Nvidia Quadro FX5600
HD output card for HD monitor Blackmagic Intensity
On board 7.1 sound
SATA2 Blueray Burner Sony BWU100
System drive SATA2 500GB 10,000 rpm
Scratch disc (audio etc) on board SATA2 raid0 2 x 500GB 10,000rpm
Raid card Intel or Highpoint Technologies 4 port
Video raid0 SATA2 4 x 500GB 10,000rpm
HD Codec Cineform ProspectNow the tricky item – the operating system
Windows Server 2003 enterprise or
Windows XP64 or
VistaI will not be using this machine for anything but the Adobe Master Collection and associated 3rd party plugins
I would like 10 hours of EX1 1080 HD compressed video storage and have read that Prospect is 70GB per hour.
I would like to reduce render times especially in AE to a minimum and have very few red bars in Premiere
Two questions
Would this give me a solid fast editing station for the EX1 1080 footage ?
Which operating system would be best ?
Any comments would be appreciated together with examples of what others use for fast trouble free HD editing
Thanks
