I realize this is not your usual post, so I hope I’m not violating Creative Cow’s code of conduct for forum use. I’ve been wanting to post this for months, and thought I’d sneak it in at the very end of the year. In fact, this is my very first post on the forum.

I’m just a video hobbyist, using FCP and the other Final Cut Studio applications for the past year, after having stepped up from use of Grass Valley’s Edius for the previous five years. It’s been a real challenge, due to the relative complexity of all the FCS applications. Early on, there were times when I thought I had made a big, expensive mistake. Fortunately, I’ve made considerable progress and have completed some neat projects, although there is still so much for me to learn.

I wanted to say how deeply I appreciate all of your contributions to this forum. The things I’ve learned here have been invaluable. I have a thick binder chock full of articles, tutorials and posts from this forum and the Creative Cow website that I’ve printed out and studied. I wish there was a way I could repay all of you for this help.

Most of all, it never ceases to amaze me how generous so many of you have been in sharing your knowledge and time on this forum. As video professionals, you certainly have better things to do than answer questions from knuckleheads like me. 🙂 You guys and gals are the greatest!

Thanks again, and may all of you have a great 2009!

    Sincerely,

    Jim

[Jim Glickert] “hope I’m not violating Creative Cow’s code of conduct for forum use.”

Saying “Thanks!” is never a violation of the Cow’s code of conduct. Quite the contrary! We’d be happy to see much, much more of it. 🙂

Yours is obviously one of the first posts of 2009, and it’s a great way to start the year.

    Best wishes to all,

    Hi Jim,
This is your first post, but don’t hesitate to do it whenever you have a question.
In this job/hobby we can not stop learning new things.
My best wishes for you, for Tim and for all the friends of The COW, in this almost 14 hours old New Year.
    Cheers,
    rafael

Our pleasure Jim. The beauty of the Cow is that it’s bigger than any one person so you’re getting a wealth of knowledge from all over the industry and all over the world. I commend you for building up a library of answers and tutorials as that will help you find the answers quickly when you need them.

A very Happy New Year to you too and thanks for the note. It’s notes like this that really make all our volunteer time here worth the effort.

    Hi Jim,

Perhaps you will find it validating that I, as a quasi-professional, also have binders full of posts, tutorials and the like, indexed for quick reference, from all the wonderful people on the Cow.

I have a fairly straightforward end market for my video product, so my post workflow does not have the breadth and complexity others on this forum have. As a result, I don’t post all that often, but jump at the chance when a subject or question comes up that I can attempt to answer.

Your kind thoughts are appreciated. And in that vein, I also want to thank everyone here for their help, and wish all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

And now, in an hour, I begin drinking the wonderful elixer to prepare for my colonoscopy tomorrow morning; No jokes, please! I get no respect! Take my wi…. please!

    Cheers,

    Gary
