Hi… I have a quick request and would be much appreciated if someone would be willing to pass on their After Effects expertise.. I just would like to know how to create a quick transition the likes of what one see’s all the time on fast paced, hip doco’s on the national geographic channel.. It basically appears that the video blows out and there is a slight zoom in or something and the effect reverses to reveal the clip… Its usually accompanied by a “whoosh” sound effect.

Anyhow, it seems simple and Ive tried to recreate it in A.E but I cant get it right… does anyone here ever do such an effect and would be willing to pass on how? Ive a feeling it is quite simple, any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Andrew Kramer has a preset on videocopilot.net called “bloom” which I think is what you’re looking for.

I would suggest you use this transition sparingly though, as it is becoming VERY overused on US TV, and has recently started to make an appearance here in the UK. To me, it’s the star wipe of the early 21st century 😉

Homer: And star wipe and we’re out.

Lisa: Dad, there are other transitions besides star wipes, you know.

Homer: Why have burger when you can have steak?
