Activity Forums Avid Media Composer a question about picture quality

  • a question about picture quality

Am I right in thinking that if I have captured my media at say 185 rs, and then need to do a video mixdown of the entire sequence, selecting 185 in the video mixdown option will result in NO quality drop whatsoever, whereas selecting 1.1 would also result in no quality drop but take way more hard drive space, and not INCREASE quality at all, hence being pointless.??

Pretty much correct. NO visual loss from 185 to 185 is mostly true. The tests I have seen timelines go 10+ generations of DNxHD to DNxHD with no visual loss to the image. But there is a decode-re-encode process happening. With uncompressed, there is a decode, but no re-encode as it saves it out.
