Hi there all, planning to upgrade my setup…

    my Q is:

Will the 4 Tb internal raid in a MacPro Quad (with a CalDigit Raid card) used as a server, be fast enough to move ProRes files for a small, 2-3 seats studio using a video sharing solution Bob Zeling style?

Will I need to add an external enclosure to handle the load?

    OR

Can my good ol’ XServe Raid be up to the task?

    Thanks in advance

hey, you can try it. I setup a system just like this for Valencia Community College in Orlando, FL, but they use DV25 files only.
You know what – I bet it works. And don’t say “my good old XServe RAID”. The Cal Digit card, and 3 – 4 internal drives outperforms the “good old” XServe RAID.

Don’t forget, you will need the managed switch, and multi port
ethernet card from Small Tree !

Thanks for the info Mr. Zelin.

All the improvements we are planning for the studio try to accommodate a large project that’s close to being signed, consisting on creating a large Audiovisual database of the Island I live in, mostly landscape, so I don’t foresee heavy editing or compositing, just the usual CC and minor adjustments.

I’ll mail you (if that’s ok) a basic diagram and description of the workflow I’m planning to implement, including new systems and “recycling” the hardware we already have.

We don’t have many resources here in the Canary Islands like integrators I could consult about all this so the COW is my first stop for gathering information.

    Thanks in advance
