A couple of questions regarding compression and importing…
Hey guys, it’s been awhile since I’ve thrown out a question, but you guys always hit a homerun so, here goes…
…I’m working with Premiere Pro (I can’t remember the version number) and want to import video off a dvd. I’m not sure how to go about this. In working with Avid it was never a problem but I’m not sure how to do it properly. I’m trying to pull a feature-length film from an authored dvd (an indy film that a friend of mine did) and bring it into the timeline. Any suggestions?
Also, I’m looking for a basic primer on compression for web based streaming services and the like. Any suggestions where to go to become fluent in these forms?

This worked for me in coverting some short films recently. After ripping the DVD files to your harddrive use VirtualDubMpg2 to convert the files to .avi using whatever codec you prefer. I used the Panasonic DV codec.

Hmm…all I see are a bunch of IFO files, etc…I don’t see an mpg2 file at all.

Okay, so here’s what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to make a music video set to my buddies’ dvd footage. When I try and burn down the disc all I see are a bunch of IFO files. Is there anyway to take the DVD and convert the files so that I can use them in premiere?

What program are you using to rip the files off of the DVD? You must have it set to IFO mode, but that may not be a problem. Virtualdubmpg2 may still be able to work with them. If it can’t there is probably another version of VirutalDub that can.
I suggest you go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com It’s the best place for learning about encoding and converting video. IMHO, of course.
