A couple of questions: Levels and AE integration

I’ve been doing some color correction with Premiere Pro CS3 lately, and I’ve found something strange, which I don’t know whether to call a bug. Let’s say that I have a clip with excess luma levels (as shown in the waveform scope): if I add an Auto-levels effect, it limits the luma to within legal parameters, and you can indeed see how the highlights of the image become less bright. But if I add a Levels effects, the waves in the waveform monitor get inmediately clipped to the maximum legal value, *even before I touch any of the parameters and even if the image itself doesn’t change at all*. After that, if I start touching the controls of the Levels effects, both the image and the waveform do indeed respond correctly.
The other question I had was: is there a way to do a “send to” After Effects, just as you can do a “send to Motion/Soundtrack” in FCP? I know you can import an AE project directly into Premiere with Dynamic Link, and you can also import an entire Premiere project into AE, but what I’m trying is to export a single clip in the timeline to AE, in order to do something to it (motion tracking, keying, whatever), and have it replaced inmediately in the timeline with the AE comp, without the need to find manually in/out points, replacing, etc… In other words, just like the “send to” feature in FCP.
