  • A couple of questions about Project settings and Render settings in Sony Vegas (FPS, & Resolution)

    Hi

I have a few questions regarding FPS and Resolution in the project and render settings.

FPS: I use fraps to record gameplay at 30fps. In the project properties, should I have the frame rate set at 30fps as well? Should this be the same in the render settings as well?

Resolution: Similar to the fps questions. Should the project properties have the same resolution as the footage? And is it okay if I render the video out in 720p although it was recorded in 1080p?

    Thanks

If you want smooth playback while editing, it’s best to keep the project frame rate the same as the source frame rate. Otherwise Vegas will need to convert the frame rate on-the-fly which may cause it to stutter and lag.

If the aspect ratio of your source and delivery format are the same (as they are with 1080p and 720p) then it doesn’t matter. I would keep the project 1080p to match the source and improve timeline playback.

If the aspect ratios did not match, then I would recommend that you set your project to the same aspect as your delivery format so that you don’t get surprised by cropping and placement that no longer matches when the aspect changes.

Thanks for the help. After a few tests, matching the frame rates and fixing the resolutions in Sony Vegas have improved the overall outcome of the movie.

    Thanks again!
