Just noticing in the last month or so while watching some old films, that they list the editor, singular in the credits. This was with big budget films like Gandhi and others. I was wondering, did the credits not need to list the people helping the editors or was the editor of a film actually able to do that alone? I certainly remember that most smaller films that I was around were singularly edited. But Gandhi? My assumption is that it was just the *lead* editor, and that there were a lot of editors working on these films.
