a bit of clarity on edge mattes
I built the finest track matte I could with my dvcpro50. It’s not going to get any better (new to the process, still tinkering) I’d like to blur the hard edges into the background plate.
As I understanding it, I need an edge matte, one that overlaps BOTH foreground and background by a pixel or two (This is not a matte blurring operation.) What’s the best way to obtain said edge matte? (Or do I have it all wrong to begin with?)

You can create an edge matte for an image in many different ways. What I would suggest is duplicating your matted footage, applying a Channel > Shift Channels effect with these properties:
Alpha -> Full On
Red -> Alpha
Green -> Alpha
Blue -> AlphaThen apply a Stylize > Find Edges effect and Invert it. This should give you a basic edge matte, from here you can blur it slightly and use Color Correction > Curves, Color Correction > Levels or Channel > Minimax to increase/decrease the range of the matte.
