a big thanks to Ben for the tc gen advice
Just want you to know that your advice was bang on. I know I need to find out more about FCP but because of all the nuances in the software the manual just doesn’t help that much. Any recommendations?

You’re welcome. I can’t myself recommend a book or info, as I learnt the hard way from FCP 1 onwards (or was it 2?) I’m sure that others here will have some helpful recommendations. AVID friends I know have commended the FCP for AVID users book that the Apple Store sell.
I’m sure you’ll find that a good forum is more helpful than any book – this one has helped me a lot in the past (searching posts often solves it), that’s why people here like to help.
