A 3 Part Question About My DVD
Ok, here goes. You guys are always more than great. I know there’s nothing as good as getting some in depth hands on…so now I don’t ask unless I am at a point where I don’t know where to go. This is a question about exporting in 5.1, DVD Architect and more about sound.
1 – I have a DVD we made where we sampled all Kubrick films and scored minimal house over the top. Complete with Kubrick triggers thrown in on top. I captured this and have it in Vegas now.
The audio was just 2 Channel Stereo. Lossless .wav file. I see where I can export this as 5.1. I know it’s not true 5.1, but I’m a little concerned. This is not dialog and I don’t want the center channel to play a part like films in 5.1. My question is does the volume level for each channel represent equal sound for all of the channels. I can just simply turn the volume for the center channel down correct?
Any optimal settings recommendations?
2 – I have never used DVD Architect. I don’t think I will have issue. My question goes back to the Audio. It will have the 5.1 mix, but what if the user does not have 5.1? Is there an option that will default to something else?
Kind of confused on that issue. Thank you guys again, this place is wonderful.

Your 5.1 mix will be downconverted to stereo or mono by the playback device.
Now on to question 1. Let me ask this question.
Why do you want to take content that is stereo and put it into surround? It seems to me the better solution is to mix in stereo and export your stereo mix as a Stereo AC3 file for DVD Architect to author with. As I understand your post, you do not have elements that you are using to try and create a surround mix with. Perhaps I have missed somthing.If what you have is stereo content and you are not adding surround elements that will be presented in a surround sound space, why create a 5.1 surround project? Why are you trying to go 5.1 with it? If it’s stereo now, and your not adding surround elements, keep it stereo.

Thanks for the answer. Forgot about the sound elements I’m adding. They are various Kubrick film samples that I’m dropping on top of the film. I got it to to work last night, thanks.
