Trying to submit online for festivals through withoutabox and they want less than (or max) a 2GB file –

    Our FCP file is 8.14GB
    Dimensions: 1280 x720
    Codecs DVCPRO HD (720p60)
    Integer (Little Endian)
    Channel Count 2
    Duration 24’30

We have tried the qt conversion and compressor but usually looks bad and loses quality of color and sound

Any help on how to “shrink” this and keep it looking and sounding good?

    THANKS

Does the Festival require the file size reduction or is it just the lack of file transfer system that can send a file 8 gigs?

I have sent files to festival via their ftp or Http transfer protocol. Perhaps you should enquire if they have the ability to have a bigger file uploaded or otherwise, find a transfer service online that takes bigger files.

You know this is simply for festival review and not for screening? We uploaded a file that’s 640×360 and about 1GB. It’s a feature 84 minute film and looks fine.

Haven’t had any issues with film festivals concerned about the quality, although it looks great, and it does what it’s supposed to do. Keep us from having to send out quite so many DVDs to film festivals.

BUT I will say, this process does not work well as the files are actually parked on IMDB and we’ve gotten feedback from the festivals that the system is not working well at all. Many times they cannot access the files and end up asking for a DVD for review anyway.

Walter, do you mind sharing what setting you used in Compressor to get your film to that size? That is, if you used compressor. The specs listed on Withoutabox are very vague. We are unsure if it should be a streaming MPEG codec (i.e. MPEG-4 LAN streaming), a streaming H.264 codec (i.e. H.264 LAN Streaming) or what we prefer, a .mov file (i.e. Quicktime H.264).

The site also states a frame size of 480×360, but like you, we’d prefer 640×360.

    Thanks!
