Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 8fps film look

  • Posted by Tim Young on June 3, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Hi, trying to “grungify” some night time footage. Would like it to look like something shot for Wong Kar-Wai’s films that have a neon-smeared look. i believe that was film shot at 8 or 9 fps

Strobe filter plus trails filter kinda does it, but want to get the feel of frames blurring or blending together a bit more.

    Any tips?

    Tim

I tried it with the strobe in FCP and added a bit of motion blur (16 frames – blurriness 800).
Kinda looks like it, but I would say it’s the camera that gives this special blur. Looks like they just filmed it at a lower shutter speed.

This seems to be shoot with a low shutter speed.
I would speed the picture up a 50%.
Then slow it dow a 50% WITHOUT FRAME BLENDING.
The movie will look as shoot as half the fps.
Apply a lot of Movement Blur (ReVision MB or similar).

[Rafael Amador] “I would speed the picture up a 50%.

    Could work.
But then you have to apply the speed up first, then nest the sequence/clip in a new sequence (ALT+C) and apply the 50% slowmo.

    Sorry, speed up how much?

Then export a QT and re-import it?

then slow the QT down by 50%?

I was writing while Dennis was posting.
His Strobe solution may works better and faster.
If not 50% up and 50% down.
