8core Mac Pro – AE7 – Image buffer problem

April 10, 2008 at 6:11 pmI searched the forum and found a very extensive thread on this issue, however I still have a couple related questions. I haven’t experienced any crashing with AE, only the image buffer problem (while working and rendering). I was able to render when I set my max memory and Ram cache to 45% (1.3 GB each). At that point it took about 45 minutes to render 712 frames with a few 3d layers and only one of those in motion.
One question is about the Maximum Disk Cache Size. What is the optimal setting for that? I have a brand new 500GB second internal drive. Would it be best to use that as my disk cache?
Also, the other thing that confuses me: Firstly, I’m running with 10 GB of RAM so I kinda thought the 3 GB limit wouldn’t really matter, even with Rosetta, because I still have so much left over. Secondly, I found that even if I set the maximum memory to 120% (default) it still only uses around 16-17% during rendering.
I’m hoping to get CS3 in the very near future, so maybe all of this will be moot then, but for now, I’d still like to know what’s going on here.. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
