768X1024 sequence
I have 1920 x 1080 footage of a talking head that I need to export so it can viewed on a vertical screen of 768 x 1024 (don’t ask me why 🙂 and yes it should have been shot differently)
Any ideas?
I was thinking to first rotate the image so at least it’s now 1080 x 1920 but it’s not really helping…Thx in advance!

Do you need to recompose the shot, or just take it as it is and have the monitor display as portrait?
That aspect ratio is basically a flipped 4:3 monitor (3:4). So is there a crop involved as well as scaling down?

The talking head is dead center but I would have to scale it down a bit so there is a little side head room…
AS far as cropping Only the left and right -
I would do it in After Effects if you have that available.

Thinking of bringing it in FCP… -
FCP would have the same issues as Avid. Both of them aren’t designed for this resolution. They are designed for broadcast TV work. Well, FCP 7 and earlier is.
You need to use an App that was designed to deal with this…like After Effects or even Premiere Pro. DOn’t have it? Well, now you have an excuse to get it. Because you have video that you need edited, and the apps at hand aren’t designed to deal with it.

Don’t forget, you can rent Adobe Creative Cloud month to month. You get After Effects and Premiere Pro (and everything else). Not a huge investment to get the right tools for the job.

I’ve always wondered if there was a free/cheap utility that would rotate video clips.
In the Digital Signage world, we have our preComps set to both Portrait and Landscape but the schedule system software we use allows 90 degree rotations in any direction.
