720/30pN to 1080/60i conversion?
Hi;
I’m preparing to direct a tv comedy utilizing two HVX200s. I wish to shoot in 720/30pN mode as I expect to shoot a large quantity of footage and want to maximize of disk space. I have to deliver 1920×1080/60i (59.94). I of course considered using the 24p or 30p (over 60p) modes however this will seriously limit P2 capacity and put double the stress on the on set pre-editor.
My questions are as follows:
1. Are my plans sound?
2. Will an up conversion from 720/30pN to 1080/60i be straightforward and look satisfactory?
3. I also was considering shooting 720/24pN but am led to believe that a conversion from 720/24pN to 1080/60i will be more problematic and will not look as good.Anyone with some good advice?

I edited a documentary at 720p24 24PN from start to finish. I then output to 1080p 23.98 using a Kona 3…this output in real time, using the card to upconvert on the fly. That will be your best bet.

Thanks very much for your response — good information in the link. This is a bit different as I have to deliver in 1080/60i and I am a bit more concerned about how the framerate change and up res will look. Once again I do not wish to shoot in one of the “over 60 formats) do to the quantity of material I need to shoot.

DO a test…take a gander. Test output a 5 min segment and see how it looks.

Yeah I know I can do a test…..
Before I rent a camera I thought I might find someone here with specific experience with this.
