Nope, it’s FCP with any HD-SDI 720p capture.

October 31, 2005 at 1:57 pm[Tom Wolsky] “Apple might say QT is part of the operating system. Isn’t it the board manufacturer’s responsibility to write drivers that work with the OS? If an OS component changes it’s the third party’s responsibility to change the drivers. That said, obviously it should work, and should not have been broken in the QT development.”

this would be great (and true!) if Apple did not demand that the 3rd parties hardware vendors use the apple codec’s for RT. you know that FCP 5 does not even support RT Extreme in photojepg compressed video when first shipped. Apple does not want nor do they support 3rd party codecs of any kind for RT functionally in FCP.AJA uses the Apple

Yeah it’s an SDI issue,

October 31, 2005 at 4:50 pmGary,
Wish I’d known you were at the games. For most of the sets (I worked the ALCS as well) our quarters were pretty tight, but there was room in the NCP B-Unit for visitors. Hopefully next time.
Regards,
Tom

Actually I should clarify that, it’s an issue with any LOGGED HD-SDI 720p capture. If you simply do a Capture Now, 720p works fine.
Capture Clip and Batch Capture introduce the issues.

October 31, 2005 at 5:22 pmThat reflects my experience as well. Capture now worked as expected, Log and Capture gave me a subclip with black video and good audio. The file the sublcip refered to was fine.
Very glad I was doing short turn around work.

October 31, 2005 at 6:25 pmI just talked to will at AJA and he was saying this has been an on-going discussion with Apple and at one time they said it was AJA’s problem. I know this is not the case as I have had the same problem with a Black Magic card. Anyway he wanted poeple who have had this problem to document it and what it meant to the work flow so it could be forwarded to Apple. His email is will@aja.com
Thanks

November 11, 2005 at 10:03 pmI just came accross another instance where this becomes a serious workflow problem. We had a drive failure so had to move the project and all the media to another drive and back again. When re-connecting the clips, they all came in as subclips. Deleting the subclips and just importing the original clips, broke the timecode references to the sequence. Essentally the editor had to start all over. He hadn’t gotten very far into the project, but he would have waisted a lot of time if it had happened further along.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is the stupidest bug I have ever seen in FCP and I’m so glad your editor was not that far along with the project. This bug has very serious implications in the HD workflow in FCP and it just simply needs to be addressed immediately by the FCP team. Version 5.0.3 and it’s STILL not fixed.
I guess we all need to wait for a multicam reality show to crash and burn with this bug for Apple to notice it since they keep fixing multicam stuff.
