After losing a couple days of work trying to “fix” my problem, I have found the solution. Do not install 7.0e as it will not work porperly with *.m2t files. The short version of my problem is that the following would cause lock-ups and Red screens (the equivalant to Windows blue screen). 1) Build dynamic RAM Preview. 2) Selectively prerender video. 3) Any Render As builds. and 4) randowm timeline scolls and changing preview window settings (for example Preview(Auto)to Best(Full). My temporary fix was to reduce RAM for Dynamic RAM preview to 0 thus disableing it. It wasn’t a %100 fix but rather kept it from crashing as often. The only full solution was to roll back to 7.0d. The rollback COMPLETELY solved all issues. Sony has released a buggy update. This is being verified on multiple websites and forums as I type this. If you have experienced any “problems” since the update you may need to rollback to 7.0d. Please post any additional workarounds you have found or info reguardind this subject.

without wanting to belittle your problems:

    a. i have not read of extensive problems with 7e (which i am using without problems). true there are a number of people experiencing various problems, but they seem, in general, to revolve around the use of overtly large stills, or the use of ‘none standard’ file formats.

    b. i hadn’t realised that 7e was vista approved yet.

    hope you find a solution,

So how do you roll back to 7.0d without completely uninstalling Vegas then re-installing?

Sorry Allen but an uninstall/reinstall is the only way to roll back to a previous version. It’s fairly quick and painless though.

So I’m not the only one! I installed 7e, and the system locked up at about 30% of the way through when trying to render a DVD file from an m2t timeline.

    I reinstalled version 7d.

Do I have to uninstall DVDA also? Something about registering AC3 and MP3?

Anyone have 7.0d I can have? I don’t seem to have it on my computer and I can’t get it from Sony’s site.

Only one at Sony is 7.0e. I’ve had Vegas 7 for a while but just recently installed it so never got any of the updates before ‘e’.

I may just uninstall Vegas 7 and go with the original install and see if that prints to tape from the timeline.

    Thanks

Never mind. I found it. Got it from Sony’s FTP directory. They got ’em all there.

Well, I’ve been in touch with Sony about this.

I uninstalled 7.0e and re-installed Vegas. Plain old 7.0 Build 79. I tried printing to tape with 2 test files I had. First on an AVI required no rendering. Just brought it into the timeline and clicked PTT. It worked fine. So I brought in a file that had some composits so it needed rendering. I again clicked PTT. It rendered itself andimmediately printed to the tape also.

Next step, and thank GOD for XP, I’ll create a restore point, then install the D upgrade. I’ll try the same two tests with 7.0d.

OF course we know 7.0e won’t PTT for me and how many others?

    sorted?

i was wondering since i haven’t seen any other posts with problems of ptp with 7e. in fact, the release actually fixed a couple of (for me) serious bugs in 7d – notably not finding initial tc on batch capture.

was your original instal on visa?

    Hi Leslie
No XP actually. Way too early for me to even think about Vista.
