… i know its not officially supported, but i installed vista x64 on one machine and vegas 7e.It seems to work fine, i did some wedding editing but i was quite suprised when i tried to render out using the dvd architect video stream (mainconcept mpeg-2) template.
The pc is quite a fast intel c2d 2.66ghz.The footage is standard PAL DV, without any filters.Unfortunately it rendered at around 50% realtime.(a 4min clip rendered at 6 mins).
The funny thing is that cpu usage on the task manager spiked up and down from 99% to 0% (something like a heart chart).
When i exported to dv it rendered at more than 2x realtime, but cpu usage during the render was 100% steady.
I tried the same clip on my 1.6 ghz c2d win xp 32bit laptop and the mpeg render was a bit faster than realtime.
I guess the main concept codec needs a 64bit rewrite.
So… the point of this test is just to let you know, better wait for the 64bit vegas 8 around the end of the year to go vista64

after a few days fiddling with the settings i found why it happens… if you give more than 300-400 mb ram for ram previews, mpg rendering goes crazy, it varies cpu usage from 10 – 50%, averaging usualy at around 35% , having render times around 30-50% realtime on my pc (again, 2.66 c2d, 4gb ram).
setting the ram preview memory below 350 mb returns the rendering cpu usage to 92-100%, giving render times around 1.6x realtime.
