64-bit version and Vegas 8 the same?
Posted by Neal Barlow on September 7, 2007 at 10:18 pmGreetings all,
With just days away from the debut of Vegas 8, I am curious, is this the 64-bit version that Sony was showing earlier or is that something different? 8 looks like a great update, especially the Pro titler, but if it is only a hold off till a 64-bit verse is released it seems kinda like a waste. Anyone know the scuttle-butt?Neal Barlow

September 7, 2007 at 10:44 pmNo, this isn’t 64 bit. At NAB I was told the 64 bit version would be release in BETA to only people who have upgraded to V8.

September 17, 2007 at 2:33 pmI was told to install the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, but is Vegas Pro 8 supporting 64-bit version? Can I run Vegas Pro 8.0 32-bit version on a 64-bit version of Windows Vista?

September 18, 2007 at 12:17 pmI tried to install it on Windos XP Pro 64 bit that was fully updated and it would NOT install. The progams Vegas requires prior to installation do not install in 64 bit Windows. When I called Sony, they replied, “We do not support that version of Windows.”
You can try Vista but I doubt it works. If it does, or you find a way, let me know.

February 1, 2008 at 4:09 pmJerry,
Did you get your Vegas 8 to install and run on XP Pro 64?
I installed on my Intel 64 w/o any issues.
It must install into the Program files (x64) directory on system drive. In fact, I have not found any software that failed to install or operate.
I am running the latest SP and all updates.Let me know if i can help.

February 1, 2008 at 6:10 pmNo, I finally installed Windows 32 bit on my machine. I had a project to finish and couldn’t get it done otherwise. Maybe I could have with a virtual machine but it was too much problem. I’ll probably go back to 64 later – when the beta test of Vegas 64 is running and Red Giant comes up with a Vegas Magic Bullet Looks plugin. That would be my ideal setup. As it was, I finished my project with Vegas, some Premiere Pro, some After Effects and I beta tested Looks there. My project website isn’t finished but you can see some of it now at

February 1, 2008 at 6:25 pmI should have made it clear that I am running the x86 32bit version. Sorry.
The only place I can think that the 64 bit version should make a difference is in a hi-en rendering event. I have 4GB RAM and a very fast graphics card.
It all works a heck of a lot faster than i can work.Sony will get there eventually.
