60D footage for an event was shot at 1920×1080 24p and some at 1920×1080 30p.
Hi…
I’m not exactly sure how and when it happened, but part of one of our camera operators 60D footage for an event was shot at 1920×1080 24p and some at 1920×1080 30p.1) The camera operator did not go in the menu to make that change, that’s a mystery. Any thoughts on how that might happen?
2) We don’t know when the change occurred. Is there a way to check the raw footage to determine is it is 24p or 30p?
3) I’ve checked a little and there are ways to change 30p to 24p by bringing the 30p footage into a 30p time-line then, converting that sequence to 24p in film tools or after effects. Any best option suggestions would be great 🙂

The camera operator changed the battery maybe? That might make it default to another setting. Other than that…the only way is to manually set it.

Open each clip up in Quicktime, and GET INFO…that will show you.

No. YOu need to convert the footage BEFORE you bring it into FCP. FCP removes the pulldown wrong. Use Compressor to convert the frame rate.

So, bring each individual 30p clip into compressor and change the frame rate?

Yup…and you will need to adjust the frame controls to BEST on all the settings.

That IS how you transcode. You use Clipwrap2 to Transcode the footage to ProRes, or ProRes LT.

I usually transcode using MPEG Streamclip to get my ProRes files, but with changing 30p to 24P I’m a little confused on the steps to take I guess. I was thinking I would take the 30P raw into Compressor, change it to 24P, then I didn’t know if I should edit the new file I get or if there’s another step prior to bringing the files into FCP7.

yes, you use Compressor to change the frame rate AND transcode to ProRes at the same time.

Hi… that sounds good Shane. If you’re still there; when in compressor and we select “BEST” for the Rate Conversion, there is also a Set Duration to section. I’m thinking it should be set to match the duration of the raw footage, but one of the options is so source plays at 23.98. What are your thoughts?

That setting defaults to 100% of source. Leave it alone.
