Our studio is working with AE7 we’re doing a series of spots for a client, one involves stop motion. Lots of frames. 6000 to be exact.
We loaded these into AE and proxy rendered each comp in order that the shoot was done. I’m editing this down in AE using time remaping so I can have a lot of control over my stop motion animation. The project is huge. 23.5 MB. On a quad with 6gig of ram the project beachballs alot. every 5 minutes. Even on another machine with 2.5TB RAID array it crashes. I have my ram previews down to 1/3. Adaptave Rez on. and preview set to 1/8. Oh, and everything is proxy rendered. Dunno how else to approach this…. any suggestions are more thatn welcome….

I’m going to take a wild guess.. probably a bug-(.

Are rendering to avi or Quicktime ?

    Have you tried both ?

When that happens, I usually start disabling all third party plugs, especailly with AE7.

After that it’s layers at the time.

    Good luck

after proxy rendering twice. Once to 1840×1224 then to 720×486 draft quality. I’m not crashing as much.
The crashes still occur after a lot of ram previewing and then making an alteration after NOT purging.
the green ram preview line looks broken up. Then it beachballs. Would MOTION 2 be better for this.
since I’m only working with time changes.

[Dave LaRonde] “Or check to make sure your memory’s okay.”

That’s what it sounds like to me. I’ve been working with long HD1080 image sequences for the last months, and haven’t run into these kinds of problems. And I only have 2GB RAM.

I’d take out 2GB for starters and see what happens. Then swap them out to see if the problem remains.
