I am capturing (Panasonic AJ-HD1400) some footage shot at 1080 24p with the Panasonic HDX900. The footage looks great but every 4th frame is duplicated. And my vid rate is 29.97. I’ve searched the forums quite a bit and I find that when shooting in the 1080 24p format you have to “use reverse tele cine to remove one of the frames that was duplicating”? I’m still relatively new to the field and i don’t even know what reverse tele cine is. Is there no way to simply capture the tape and have the resulting vid rate come out 23.98? I used the capture preset DVCPRO HD 1080pA24 and also tried DVCPRO HD 1080i60 to see what that would so, i got the same results, beautiful footage that when played over the computer looks great but when you go frame by frame it has the 4th frame duplicated. I presently do not have an HD broadcast monitor set up yet. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Thank you.

Did you shoot 24p or 24pA, if you want to edit 23.98 you should be shooting 24pA.

If you shoot 24p and capture with the 24pA setting it is removing the wrong fields.
    24p is 2:3:2:3, 24pA is 2:3:3:2.

If you shot 24p, and have captured 60i, try a small clip in compressor with Frames turned on, Deinterlace>Reverse Pulldown.

Sounds like 24pA to me. Try a small test and use the DVCPro HD 1080pA24 setting.

Captured with 1080pA24 the quick time shows 3 clean frames followed by the 2 interlaced frames same when capturing with 1080i60, when going through compressor using DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and viewing the quick time i get 4 clean frames then a duplicate of the fourth. In the future we’ll be shooting 1080 24pA, this was just some test footage but it wasn’t till today I got the word we changed from 24p to 24pA. Using the 1080pA24 capture setting in the future will give me a vid rate of 23.98 correct? for the test footage how do i get rid of those 2 interlaced frames?

*Did the reverse telecine in FCP and that converted my clips to 24fps

Be aware that if you use capture now over 422 with that deck and a Kona (which will do 23.98 on input cause it reads the frame flags) if you capture any of bars at the head of the tape the entire capture will be 59.94. bars are generated by the camera thus have no frame flags.

That is a 720p workflow. He is capturing 1080.
