  • 5DMARKII footage to lay out across tracks based of creation time stamp

I shot a project with three 5D Mark II (school project) cameras. I am looking for a way to automate the process of laying out the footage shot by each camera chronologically by its creation date stamp so that I end up with three tracks with all the clips placed in order of when they were shot to accelerate my editing workflow.

I realize the issues of using the footage straight from the camera (I have a proxy workflow that works fine), I am just wondering if any one has attempted a similar feat with a file based camera.

Currently, the options to lay out based off timecode and date / time stamp return an error and the operation is not complete.

Does any one have a solution or work flow they can offer or an alternative workflow

    Thanks in Advance

You could sort the footage by date in the Windows explorer and then click the last filename and shift+click the first and drag them onto the Vegas timeline. They should all be in date sequence at that point.

If you are trying to line up the footage of two or three cameras shooting at the same time, the 5D II surely does not supply that kind of time synch signal. The setting of the 5D II clock is not that precise, and, when Canon adds that feature to a video camera, the price is boosted by at least $1,000.

There is great piece of software that will line up your multiple shots without the need to match up time code or by matching sound wav forms etc. It is called Plural Eyes
