Reading the subject title, I’m sure you’re saying “duh”. I’m working on a video for a special presentation room. It is essentially the width of 5 screen captures, which is what the video consists of.

I did everything in FCP, but was limited by the sequence size of 4000px in FCP. Exporting that from FCP to H264 MOV was fine. However, the client requested it be done at the full 5600×1050, so I brought it into Premiere CS5, which let me edit at that resolution. However, Premiere won’t let me export an H264 (using MainConcept) at larger than 2000px. I was able to export 5600×1050 from Premiere using x264, but that showed up garbled on the client’s computer.

I am able to export using the animation codec, or uncompressed from Premiere at the full res. But if I try to convert that file to H264, it just gets garbled. Below are screenshots:

Any ideas how I can get a 5600×1050 H264 from Premiere?

Can you export that using the codec you’re editing with and try encoding that in another app? You could try Compressor but that too may be limited to 4000.

You could try with MPEGStreamclip but it might also be worth testing with professional encoders such as Telestream Episode and Sorenson Squeeze. They both have downloadable demo versions.

It appears to be a limitation of H264. I am able to convert to H264 up to 5000, but when I try 5600 it gets garbled.

It appears you may be exceeding the maximum even under Level 5.1

See column on the right end.

I could suggest trying another codec but it’s such a large frame size I’m not sure where you’d find the solution.

Alternately you could cut it in half and live with doubling.

I’ve just run into this problem with a 6380x768px video wall.

Strangely I’m able to export usable h.264 with these dimensions from Apple Motion 5, but everything else I’ve tried (Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, Cinema 4D) gives me garbled video.

It’s not an ideal solution, but you can get h.264 in 5600×1050 by putting your file into Motion and exporting from there.

I’ve run into something similar too. I’ve got an Animation Best file that is 6760×1080 (3x HD wide) that compresses to H264 just fine as long as the source is somewhere around 20gb and in the range of 30-40 seconds long. Now that I have a 32 gb file that is a little more than a minute, I get errors exporting out of QT (I’m on PC’s).
Media encoder won’t go anywhere near that pixel size (in any way i’ve tried).
If I have to I can go to Motion I can but I wondered if there was another solution.
    I’m off to try FFMPG.
