5.1.4 FCP Leopard (10.6) from 5.1.4 FCP Tiger (10.4.8)
I created a project in FCP version 5.1.4 on my Imac which has Tiger 10.4.8 OS and Quicktime 7.1.5. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and installed my FCP version 5.1.4 on it. It came with the 10.6 Snow Leopard Software installed on it. I am running QT version 10.0. When I try opening the project file on the Macbook Pro, it gives the error “The project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut Pro”. I am running the same FCP software (5.1.4) on both systems.
I also have Final Cut Studio w/FCP version 7.0 installed on the Macbook Pro system. The 2 versions of FCP are in separate folders per a work-around I found on the web.
I don’t want to update the project to ver. 7.0 because I have other people assisting me with the logging process that are using 5.1.4.

Boy that sounds like a bug for sure… I seriously doubt many have tested 5.1.4 on Snow Leopard… best to update that OS software all the way for starters. Take everything it wants to install through software update.
You’ll likely have to export XML probably. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you’ve installed 5.1.4 cleanly on that new Mac… dunno of any quick fixes.
But exporting xml and importing it to the new systems software might work for you…
I’d run, not walk to FCS (2009) it’s only 300 bucks… Sure would be a HUGE upgrade for you. You get a ton for a very little, and
