Thats why I do my own testing when I can. some of this has to do with how fast the array, what kind of footage, even what capture card you use all affect this.. Rob at barefeats.com has the best track record on what is really doable IMHO.

one tidbit I have learned.
I had been told FCP does not accurately detect ” ALL” dropped frames if there is not a video card in use in the computer. not a graphics card – a video capture card. I have checked this on the last 3 systems I have and have found it to be true.

I gather that this has something to do with FW not being frame accurate to being with.

You need much faster arrays. We run the CalDigit S2VR HD and get upwards of 230MB/s and once we move to the 4:4:4, we’ll be much faster. In fact, stripe two of those units together for upwards of 900MB/s.

I can definitely confirm that on my DV setup (PAL-land).
Doesn’t happen often, but occasionally, both on capture and less often, Edit To Tape…
You can see the frame drops, but no error gets flagged.
It happened once with a DV timeline layback to DigiBeta via an AJA Io, but I think that was because the captured source footage may have been dodgy, so it probably only happens to native-DV FW.
