  • 5.1 surround from FC to HD1400 deck?

Posted by Nicolas Jolliet on November 19, 2009 at 9:42 pm

    Hi all,
I can’t find any info on how to send the 8 tracks (5.1 plus stereo mix) from my FC sequence to a DVCpro tape in a HD1400 deck.

Is it possible? someone has done it? What is embeded tracks ?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

have you routed the outputs of your various surround and stereo
stems to the appropriate audio outputs in fcp?

this is under the audio options in preferences I think.

Don’t know that specific deck but how many audio channels can it record? If it is opnly four then you can’t send the 5.1 mix (6 channels) plus a stereo.

There is a way to encode the 5.1 mix into a data stream that records onto a tape deck as a two channel stream. Look up Dolby E.

You are better off getting a facility to create the Dolby E track and restripe it onto your tape.

Since I am on a small budjet I was trying to avoid going to a facility to do that.
The Idea is to go by my friend’s studio and use is HD-1400 deck.
My friend tells me that I can’t take 8 audio tracks to the deck, but on the manual it says that it takes 8 embedded tracks so it should be possible to do it without ecoding to dolby E.

    Anyone?

Either your friend is not aware of his deck or it may require an option to take 8 channels. I can’t answer that for you so you need to find out from your friend and do a test.

As far as FCP goes, you need to set up your sequence for 8 channel output, patch each channel to i a discreet output and have an I/O card with SDI and 8 channel capability. Kona, Matrox and Decklink should all be OK with 8 channel embedded but firewire won’t.

Ok, so this should do, I ‘ll go out of the kona with Hd-sdi routing the 8 outputs.
    Thanks for you help guy’s.
