I need a firewire 5.1 surround capable mixer/control surface. Something to control Soundtrack Pro 2, and record to other audio programs.

I ordered an Alesis Master Control, but it doesn’t ship till September. So then I bought a Tascam FW-1884. The board has motorized faders, firwire and lightpipe, and 8 TPS balanced outputs, great for 5.1.

But…All the software is buggy and its more or less crap and not easy to use.

So what is everyone using for interfacing with Soundtrack?

I don’t use it, but Mackie has a great interface you should look at. That’s mostly what I say at NAB when people had an interface for FCP or Soundtrack.

Yeah, Mackie has the Universal Control. It’s midi control in/out only. Really perfect for controlling software. But it doesn’t have any mic or line i/o. If it had mic i/o and 6 tps outs I’d be set.

I’m not an audio guy and still can’t find a good hardware solution for Final Cut/Soundtrack.

When I was at NAB2007, the Apple booths used this for 5.1 monitoring to speakers:

Control surfaces I shall say, go for either TASCAM FW-1884 or Mackie Universal Control, though I never use it myself but had seen it at work.

    Cheers.
