5.1 Sound in Vegas only coming from the front
Hi there. I will keep it short this time, because I think you will instantly know what to do. So…
On my old PC I didn’t got surround sound, when I enabled 5.1 in Vegas and used 5.1 Material. The timelines were full with sound but on my surround lines the sound played from the front, still. I realized that I also didn’t had surround in my media player, games or in windows principally. Only with VLC player it was ok (??). Doesn’t matter.
So I bought a soundcard and everything was fine. Well.. now I got my new PC since 4 months with a 7.1 HDMI Soundcard on board. I didn’t had problems in Windows, games and all but today I wanted to record a game and edit it in Vegas. And.. again I only get sound from the front, even though the surround lines are showing up.

I used this (above) 5.1 test wav-sample to clarify and yes, this test file runs fine in the windows media player but vegas won’t play the surround sound from my boxes behind me. I can’t believe that I would have to buy another soundcard in my new PC!? This can’t be true (and I sold the card on ebay 5 days ago =/ ).
So my question is if you have an idea what it could be?

Go into Options | Preferences | Audio Device and set the other surround channels to something other than the front speakers.

Yep, as John recommended, adjusting your settings under

Ah, I thank you so very much. I was completely lost and it’s hard to search for this kind of problem in google or even here directly.
I couldn’t change the rear speakers directly or so but I changed from Microsoft Soundmapper to Microsoft Surround-Mapper and that of course just did the trick.
You guys are helping me out for the third time now I think. Here is the place where a professional helps you. Thank you very much again and have a nice start into the new year. =)
