5.1 sound from premiere
Hi,
I’ve been searching this for a while but couldn’t get a straightforward solution to my problem, would really appreciate some help.
In Premiere cs5, I have a a video file and 6 audio tracks for 5.1 sound. I need to export this into one single quicktime file that has 5.1 sound. If in “export media” browser I just select “5.1” in audio export mode, will that give me a correct 5.1 file, or will it mess up something?

What is the end product? If you want a file you can run from your computer, it should probably be fine. If this is for a DVD/Blu-ray project, Encore will probably trip you up if you don’t buy a Dolby plugin or use a workaround method.
I assume it’s the former since you’re exporting a QT file. Don’t know if QT player will play back 5.1, but I know VLC will. Should be easy enough to test through HDMI on a home theater system.

thanks a lot. yes, the end product is a file. what i’m concerned of, if that premiere will just merge all the tracks into one and duplicate it through all six channels when i export it. but i’ll try this way for now, thanks.

No problem. I have previously exported files with 5.1 audio from Premiere and run them from a USB stick plugged into my Blu-ray player. The channels stayed separate, so it’s definitely possible. Good luck!
