    Hi all

I’m currently attempting to convert my collection of movies from MPEG2 to H264, The problem I’m having is that when I attempt to import one of my MPEG clips, it will only import the audio in stereo, instead of 5.1. When I open the files in VLC, they default to playing the audio track, however, I can easily switch to 5.1, and it is true 5.1, not some imitation by the software. The file has been ripped directly from their DVD’s with no conversion, which makes me think that there are several audio tracks embedded in the MPEG file, and I want to import one which isn’t the default. The audio is AC3, however, I’ve installed the ad2ac3dec.dll codec, and stereo works perfectly when I need it, as stated before, it’s getting the 5.1 going which I’m having the problems with. Any help you can give would be grande.

    Thanks in advance

You will need to find software that will demux the MPEG video and audio streams so that you can access the audio stream that you want.

you wouldn’t happen to know a good program that can do it?

Unfortunately not. I have never had to do it. If no-one else posts any recommendations then an Internet search will help you.

It’s all good now, I found a program that will convert the MPEG files with the surround sound as well as ripping direct from DVD. It can also batch convert files. It’s called HandBrake. But Thanks heaps for your help on this one.
