What is the effect of shooting 24P in Europe with the 50HZ power (strobing/flickering lights)? Should the camera be set to 50HZ or 60HZ? Will the post work flow handle the 50HZ setting and the 2:3 pull down while spitting out the final 60HZ NTSC configuration through the internal menu settings in the software of the AVID and/or FCP HD systems?

If you’re delivering program for stateside use (as it sounds) just use 1/100th shutter speed in scenes that have flourescents or neon lights. This will eliminate any flickering and provide your NTSC compatibility. Leave camera set to 59.94 and shoot whatever your normal frame rate would be, namely 24, 30 or 60.

    Hi,

Shooting with the Varicam at 24 fps in Europe, set the shutter to degrees, and go to the 172.8 degree setting. This is exactly what you do when shooting film. Although the 1/100 of a second shutter will work, it eats up a whole stop of light.

    Cheers,
