    Hi,

what is the best way to convert 50 fps P2 DVCPRO HD footage to it’s 25fps format. I just want to make 2x smaller all the clips i will never slowdown.

I am doing it by applying the clip to DVCPRO 720p25 sequence timeline and then export as quicktime movie with the DVCPRO HD 720p25 settings. I was comparing the clips and converted one looks has little degraded quality. I hope it is just because my eyes are cheating me. Also sound now is 2 channel instead of 4 original channels from P2.

Also i am not sure what way FCP makes 50 to 25. I do not want frames blended but just want to remove every second frame.

thank you in advance for any suggestion,
    Andrei B.

    how was the footage shot?

why did you not remove the frames on import ( the easiest method)

the Software FRC in FCP 6 supports 720p25 footage – what’s wrong with using that?

    1. footage was shot to FireStore as P2 with settings on camera: 720p/50fps.

    2. How to remove frames on import? if you mean option to remove Advanced Pulldown and duplicate frames in log and transfer window then it does not work in my case. Somehow it does not work even with the footage shot 720p/25fps. I was asking about it in this thread: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/960950

i just want to correct my mistake shooting interview in 50 fps.

    3. FRC can not help me because i do not need to slowdown the footage.

    thank you Gary,
    Andrei

I disagree, in FCP 6 I have not had any issue with using the software FRC to remove pulldown from 720p25/50 workflows.

thats different – that is not what you asked for- Shooting at 720p50 there are not dupe frames each frame is unique. you could try a 50-25 fps conform in Cinema tools but I do not think that will work.

Gary, thank you very much for your response.

Somehow it start to work as it did before. I mean now I can remove duplicate frames from 50p/25fps footage during import. Sometimes it is good idea to restart Mac or at least FCP.
