4K Rendering Issue
Hi Everyone,
I recently installed Vegas 13 Pro (trial version) to give it a whirl, and after creating a project i’ve been unable to render it in 4K. Any tips? The source file is 4096×2304 at 23.976p and is an mp4. I’ve aligned the preferences, and created a custom template for the render, but still nothing…
I should clarify that the render completes 100%, however when i attempt to play back the rendered file, i just get a black screen.

I edit 4k video from a GoPro without any problems. What are your custom settings?

What format and render template are you trying to use? They don’t all support 4K.

Not all media players, like Windows Media player, will playback 4k codecs. VLC player is your best bet for consistent playback of a wide range of codecs.
Rendering is XAVC.MXF is pretty much your 4K codec with respects to Vegas. VLC will playback XAVC files just fine. YouTube will also accept XAVC uploads up to 128GB in size.

I was able to figure it out…Within the ‘Switches’ setting, i had to change from ‘Smart Resample’ to disable, and turn off the ‘Loop’.
I am experiencing a different issue now (Preview Lag), that i didnt have yesterday…
I uninstalled the trial version, and installed a new version of Vegas Pro 13. When i try to preview a new project, the preview stutter is nearly unwatchable…Could it be this version of 13 i just installed?? My Memory usage doesnt seem to exceed 40% utilization while watching a preview, and my CPU is around 17%, so that doesnt seem to be the problem.. I watch the Preview in (auto) mode as well…

Have you tried setting your preview settings to Preview, auto? My GoPro makes mp4 4k files and Vegas Pro 13 on an I7 laptop can play them pretty smooth with no effects, at best, auto. If I add effects, I set it to Preview auto and it’s totally usable. Where are your 4k files coming from? It seems Vegas has a hard time with your 4k type. You can always make low res proxies to edit with, then replace them with the original 4k files right before rendering.
