40″ Bravia for editing computer monitor?
I am purchasing a Mac Pro for editing both Avid and Final Cut Pro. I am a professional editor, so will only use the sytem for home editing 3 months a year. So… I would like to buy a high def TV for both editing and television watching (for the other 9 months). Questions:
Am i better off with a 32″ Sharp Aquos (720p High Def TV) or the 40″ Sony Bravia (1080p High Def TV)? How good will the picture quality be with either TV compared to a 24″ Samsung COMPUTER monitor?
Can i shrink the size of the editing windows (bins, Source Recorder) on the 40″ so the resolution remains better?

has some interesting stuff on. Particularly regarding colourspace calibration – their review of the Sony Bravia 40×3500 (called summat else your side of the pond) certainly hints at the possibility that it will accurately display the REC709 colour gamut.
I’m tempted, because SWMBO won’t have a giant screen in the house – but an LCD that I can use in the suite and bring inside for ‘screenings’ of those just bought DVD’s would be lovely… not that they’re exactly portable though…

Tom,
Three important things for you:
1) think plasma, forget LCD (you need blacks and faster screen refresh)
2) forget Aquos, women like the pretty exterior, but display of SD looks horrible. SD is still 85% of all broadcast TV.
3) TVs are not great computer monitors, they are video monitors. You should be thinking of supplying them a video signal from a Kona or BM card, not a signal from your computer video card.
