    Hi

    I have a 17″ Apple Laptop Superdrive

    1.67 GHZ PowerPC G4

    1.5 Gigs –DDR SDRam

    I’m using FCP v.3

Maybe it’s something in the settings….can someone shed some light on why it takes 4 mins or so to render 20 frames…

Is FCP V.5 more efficient as far as rendering time is concerned?

    Appreciate the help!!!!

    Thanks

    -Scotty

First, FCP 5 does render faster than FCP 3.

Second, what are you rendering? Depending on the filter you’re using, yes it can take 4 minutes or more to render 20 frames. I’ve had 48 hour renders in After Effects for a 2 minute clip.

    Hi

    Thanks Walter

It’s a speed (motion) effect…also, if I move a clip it de-renders it and takes a while to render again…

    thanks

    Scott,

Upgrade today to FCP 5 or at least FCP 4.5.

You are suffering from the workflow drawbacks of an older version and if you want better performance upgrade or get accustomed to the disadvantages of working in FCP 3.

with version 3 and a powerbook that will take a while to render. And yes, whenever you make a change such as moving the clip, it will need to re-render. That continues today with FCP 5.
