Hello. Once I’ve designed a 3D object in 3D Studio Max is there a way to import that object into AE while still retaining its 3D properties? I have the object finished in 3DSmax but do not know what to do from here. Export as what?

…From there I’m hoping to make a 3D layer/camera in AE with that 3D object.

    Any info will be appreciated!

Take a look at Zaxwerks Invigorator.

    https://www.zaxwerks.com

There’s a specific forum on the COW.

don’t forget you probably have an option to export an aec file out of 3ds — I think there is atleast. Import the camera and the quicktime file and then use its alpha to separate the quicktime. The camera movement will sync up to the quicktime.

Its much less render heavy than the invigorator — when you get it into ae — but it’ll take more time to get it out if you want radiosity/post 3d effects — and if you send it out multipass you can tweak it.

I like the invigorator for some logo treatment — but if I need to bring in realistic multipass 3d I’d use the ae export.

Another Consideration is using MAX2AE (https://www.boomerlabs.com) for much improved camera/layer/light export directly from within MAX.
