3D Track Motion – How to achieve “Smooth circular motion”? (Vegas Pro 11)
Posted by Søren Sørensen on February 23, 2013 at 5:29 pmDear Reader,
I am looking for a way to create ‘smooth circular motion’ using the 3D track motion-tool.
I can easily scale images & put keypoint, thereby making images move around the screen. But only in straight lines…My hope is to get 10-or-so images/video clips circle around continously on a tilted sphere. Centered on the ‘equator’
I found this forum and hope that one of you expert users can help me disclose this feature in Vegas Pro 11.
Kind Regards,

February 23, 2013 at 6:54 pmYou can take a look at this Vegas plugin:

It will save you plenty of time creating your 3D movements.Steve Rhoden

February 23, 2013 at 11:26 pmThanks a lot Steve, for a fast answer & the excellent and very interesting link! I might invest in this plug-in, however, my academic background pushes me on to try and understand how smooth circular motion can be achieved in Vegas Pro.
Short of using A LOT of keyframes and calculating different points on the circumference of a circle I cannot see how one can accomplish it in Vegas Pro with using plug-ins. Is this correct?
Or is there somewhere in the program that allows for typing a basic equation for a circle – and allowing easy access to changing the different parameters?

February 24, 2013 at 12:18 amI just watched John’s tutorial on that plugin and I think it is just incredible. What a great plugin for producing stunning openings. I’m about to shoot a short video for one of our museums here in St. Augustine, FL and it will make the video I think.

No, that’s not correct. I wrote VASST ScatterShot 3D using the Vegas Pro scripting language and the Script API cannot do anything that you can’t already do with the GUI in Vegas Pro; it just automated it.
So you can produce what I did with ScatterShot 3D right in Vegas Pro using lots of math. I used four formulas that involved the use of SIN, COS, Pi, Radians and Degrees. Let’s just say, it wasn’t easy… that’s why I wrote the plug-in. 😉
