3d terrain model of Wales, UK – help needed!
Hi there,
My client is asking for a map of Wales, UK. They want it to feel similar to Google Earth, in terms of the camera move and topography of the hills/mountains. But not in texture.I require some help finding or creating a 3d terrain model of Wales, UK in Cinema 4d. The camera needs to get quite close to certain locations so the mesh needs to have detail so it looks good close up. The texture isn’t so important as I plan to cover it in just a colour or simple texture. However, the model of the mountain contours is crucial. They need to have a mountainous, rough terrain feel.
I’ve tried using a satellite relief map of Wales on a relief object (with a bump map to add more detail) but it’s doesn’t create a detailed enough extrusion – it’s a bit smooth and wishy washy.
Does anyone have a better solution?
Or does anyone know where I could buy a detailed model of the terrain of Wales, UK? It’s the detailed mesh of the mountains I need, rather than the texture. I plan to stylize the texture.
I’ve tried turbosquid.com, and there is actually a Wales terrain model https://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/184570, but it’s too smooth looking and way too low resolution as I need to get close to some areas.

I would try searching for DEM maps. It’s a widely used 3d format for terrains captured by satellite data. Cinema can open certain DEMs natively, or if that doesn’t work there are free conversion programs available.
