I’m sure this is an age old question, but a search has come up blank for me.

If I arrange a scene in 3d space, various objects sitting on a flat plane and move a camera around that environment, then inveritably I will get the odd frame when an object jumps to behind the ‘ground’ and back again. I’m not flying through layers just around them. Those layers in space are not animated, they just sit there. And they are all sitting properly on the ‘ground’ not hovering or anything weird. In any case the scene is set, we are just moving around it.

Why do I get these odd frames when the 3d space goes weird. An object moving behind another or over the top of some. I have long had this problem, and for the life of me I can’t work it out.
Basically when to layers intersect. It freaks out if you move around it on random frames.

This is doing my head in,

Please, any ideas would be much appreciated

    thankyou

Use Advanced 3D to get rid of those errors. Standard 3D is not doing proper Z-sorting which causes those odd frames.

Other than the Advance d3D being an option you should look at into solving this issue, you may also have 2 or more 3D layers sharing the same 3D space. This will occur if you made a duplicate of the layer and simply made adjustment(s) to its scale or other properties without affecting its Z-position. In such cases AE will have a problem deciding which layer to render in front of the other.

For such cases, select a layer and offset it’s z-position by a pixel or less.
